No(i)t-aminazing anymore

Everyone who pays attention to the anime industry knows of the Noitamina programming block. Its main purpose is to produce shows which are obscure, or different from the norm. Stuff like Honey and Clover, Nodame Cantabile, Shiki, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, Wandering Son, Anohana were produced because of this. As of late though, the block has become quite stale; surprising since this year is supposedly one of the best years for animation since 2007.  Let’s take a look at the shows in the programming block that somehow failed to gain, at least in my opinion, interest.

Fractale/Fractal: I’ll keep repeating this as much as I can and I will repeat it now. Fractal sucks. People overestimated Yamakan’s directional ability, and when he failed to deliver, it was like dipping sourness into. . . more sourness. There were some parts of Fractale that I actually like, and I was sorta getting used to it towards the middle, but it really just burst the bubble of terribleness once it finished. Terrible CGI, insulting characterization, uninteresting plot completely covered the somehow passable scriptwriting and a hope to change the industry.

[C]: While I do think C is an enjoyable show, its definitely lacking. I could care less about the characters nor the drama nor the action and the plot (in the starting parts) and this really hurt the series potential. This also damages the what could have been an imaginative setting, awesome OST and an artistic drive.

No.6: What started out as something that strived to be different, ended with a dungbomb and made it probably the most forgettable anime Noitamina has offered. Oh sure I liked it and even gave it a decent grade, but in the long run, I think its the memory that matters and right now I don’t even remember what happened in the middle part of No.6. Except for the gay kiss which I doubt anyone who watched this will forget.

Now that’s already half of what aired from Winter to Summer. This season, which looked like it had so much win. . . was so much fail. Guilty Crown is guiltily generic and Un-Go is just so unmotivated. That’s kinda sad, especially for Guilty Crown which had so much hyped. Things don’t look good next year too as Black Rock Shooter will air in winter with Guilty Crown.

not Guilty Crown but PERSONA 4 THE ANIMATION.

This anime is boring; all the characters look like they have beards and the fact that the MC doesn’t even talk makes all too boring. Its not BLOOD-C terrible but its just plain boring. Phi Brain is a runer-up

I actually kinda like Guilty Crown; the movie-like production really helps.

My Fall Blogging Schedule

Well I finally decided on a schedule to follow now that I’ve seen Guilty Crown.

Monday: Fate/Zero

Tuesday: Ben-to

Wednesday: Chihayafuru

Friday/Saturday: Mawaru Penguindrum

Pop-uppers: Guilty Crown, BLEACH

Mondays mean Fate/Zero to me. So far, its the anime I’ve replayed a bit too much this season and its only been two episodes. Tuesdays are for Ben-to because I’get really hungry those days. Wednesday is for Chihayafuru and for anyone’s information this so far has the best showing this season; probably my favorite. Fridays/Saturdays are for more penguins as always (though I don’t think I’ll blog it today). I thought about adding Guilty Crown too but that’s just too much work and my schedule is surprisingly comfortable so I don’t wanna ruin that. But I’ll definitely pop a few posts of GC if there’s an awesome episode. Oh yeah, Bleach suddenly started caring about production quality so I’m definitely up for a few posts (I don’t think Bleach is the best anime EVAR but with episodes like this week’s or the one before, its very tempting to say its one of my favorite anime though I do know I’ll be bit in the back pretty much soon since they might be blowing budgets for this.)

What I’m not going to blog:

Persona 4: Hell no.

Bakuman 2: Just because its good now doesn’t mean its gonna be good later.

Ika Musume 2: I was kinda tempted to blog this but it coincides with Chihayafuru so. . .

HUNTER X HUNTER: I’m enjoying this but I don’t wanna blog it.

I don’t have many friends: Might turn into something I’ll hate so PASS.

Mirai Nikki: I loved the first episode but it coincides with Fate/Zero and Ben-to so no.

Others: No more time.

My Favorites this Season of Anime so far. . .

Fate/Zero – While the first episode was a bit lukewarm, the second episode was fiery hot. I find myself rewatching this many times in its span of two episodes.

Chihayafuru – BLOWN AWAY. Literally.

Ben-To – It delivered as expected. I can’t wait on how funnier it will get.

Mirai Nikki – Wakamoto ex Machina.

Ika-Musume and Bakuman sequel – While I love how Ika-chan is still as funny as ever, I find it annoying that Bakuman is becoming better. But still kudos to these two.

I think its safe to say this season is pretty much a disappointment. I guess I over-hyped it a little too much. Fate/Zero has TV-wow quality but I expected it to look like KnK which it didn’t. Guilty Crown didn’t wow me as much as I thought. Kimi to Boku failed terribly and Majikoi was just good in episode 1. Horizon in the whatever is too confusing. Well there’s still a lot to like so I’m not TOO disappointed. I really want my Spring 2011 back where everything was just awesome.

*I’ll wait til Guilty Crown’s second episode, need to watch UN-GO too.

Guilty Crown is. . .

Acceptable. But I find myself not wanting to blog this. I don’t know maybe because the quality in Commie sucked pretty badly so I’m gonna try rewatching it using Coal Guys.

If the next few episodes are amazing, which it might be, I’ll try reconsidering blogging this. For now I like my Penguin Thursdays/Fridays/Saturdays more.

I’d love to give every anime a chance but somehow I always only end up finishing about 15 series per season. A show must really pique my interest (or just plainly make me laugh) for me to watch it. Fortunately this season has truckloads, just like every season this year. Well, without further ado. . .

Phi Brain: Kami no Puzzle

Interest: 23/30

It looks and sounds really nice but its airing in NHK (educational/ makes things gay/the channel that airs Bakuman) and there’s something that makes me wary. Tentatively excited though.

Tamayura ~hitotose~

Interest: 24/30

Sounds K-On without music, but might turn out to be a reflective SoL. I didn’t watch the OVA so I don’t really know anything about this. Tentatively very excited.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai

Interest: 25/30

I’ve turned into a tsundere at these things! I don’t even like admitting that I actually liked Oreimo (also stalled Denpa Onna only to watch it again and rate it highly). TERRIBLE (OMG I’m SO EXCITED) Light Novel Adaptation of the season.

 

C³ -C Cube

Interest: 25/30

The premise looks basic but this IS the studio that produced BakaTest, so I’m gonna watch this even if its just for some visual porn.

Last Exile -Ginyoku no Fam

They say that Last Exile was quite a masterpiece. I’ve personally never seen it myself but OH HECK I’m excited for this.

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon

Kinda sounds like Index, CONFUSING TERMINOLOGIES FTW! Seriously though, this one might just turn awesome (the LN are like 2000+ pages long)

It sounds like a really cool premise- OH WHAT THE HECK THERE’S A YANDERE MAIN CHARACTER HOW CAN YOU NOT GET EXCITED!!??!?!?!!?

Sounds like a very cool detective story. + its by BONES and airs on Noitamina. Not a bad deal I guess?

I’m kinda curious about this (sounds so Brotherhood). In any case, I don’t remember anything about Hunter X hunter (I watched it when I was like 6-oops I just spoiled my age I think) and this is a retelling so, EVERYONE EYES ON THIS!

Chihayafuru

Josei anime almost always mean FUCKYEAH this will be awesome. Adding the fact that I’ve heard a lot of good things about the material, I’m very excited. + its Madhouse with 25 episodes so [QUALITY ENSURED]
