Finally it ended.
The chapter gave us crap like a 100 year time skip and it really is a bad ending. Reading it again and again and the forums too I’ve come up with what CLAMP was trying to say.
1.) Watanuki has been waiting for Yuuko for more than 100 years and more likely than not, she’ll never return.
2.) Everyone died already. Doumeki there is already the great grandson of Doumeki. Creepy really.
3.) Watanuki until now still expects her to return and it’ll be painful for him to forget her.
4.) Doumeki’s egg has the power to forget memories. Why was that only revealed now? I had to read it three times to get it.
5.) Watanuki can go outside now because he’s already scarily powerful. He still looks young though and he’s already getting Yuuko vibes so he’s a good successor.
It raises a lot of questions though:
1.) If Watanuki’s time is slowed because he’s in the shop… shouldn’t Doumeki have survived longer because he’s still there too.
2.) Where the hell is Mokona and the girls. I didn’t know they could die.
3.) Is Doumeki now appearing on Watanuki’s dream? (The original one)
4.) Did Yuuko really die? She did didn’t she?
5.) Is Watanuki now more powerful than Yuuko… or even Clow Reed.
I’ve concluded it was a pretty decent ending once you get it and it’s HARD to get it therefore this is a pretty bad ending. Again CLAMP is famous for their rushed endings and the last 2 chapters felt very unusual for a Xxx Holic chapter because of how fast paced it is. I still go to the belief that Xxx holic should have ended when Yuuko died. The ending is very thought provoking but its horribly done. Its even worse than the crap ending of Tsubasa.
So Tsubasa or Holic?
Definitely Holic still. Besides the last two chapters its still a great series. Unlike Tsubasa which is harder to comprehend (Too many clones bro) Xxx holic took it a bit easy and was just very relaxing to read. It wasn’t as complicated as it seems yet it delivers what it does best: Mystery. Tsubasa on the other hand kind of collapsed by the end of its run and the only thing I liked about the last part is its epicness.
I will accept the Rou OVA ending though next march which I hope gives a better ending.
Verdict: 9/10
To CLAMP: STOP DESTROYING YOUR SERIES!!!!!
P.S. I am excited for Gate 7 though.
